2nd TT

Had the second Indoor Time Trial today. Managed to shave a minute and six seconds off my time from the first time trial! (Finish time was 17:55, average speed of 20.7mph, average watts 251)

My legs feel a lot fresher this time after the event, but overall I'm a lot more drained than last time.

Used the following version of my speed playlist for the event:

In other news, which I should have blogged a while ago, my back fixed itself very quickly. I managed to make it through all of the New Year's day, I was lying in bed when I felt something shift in my lower back, felt a bit of sharp pain, and after that, my back was almost perfect - a little stiff, but pretty much pain free!

ovulating kleptomaniac? necrophiliac cockatiel?

So I'm watching CNN this morning over breakfast, and they show a story on Google getting subpoenaed. During the course of the segment, they show footage of search results from Google, etc. Below is a shot of one of the screens that they briefly showed....

My only guess is that they reused footage from a segment on googlewhacking...

Playlist for speed work

I've used the following playlist with great success for ~40 minute (including warmup) speed workouts for running. I'll be using a modified version of it at the Indoor Time Trial on Sunday. Use at your own risk, as I cannot be held responsible for you falling down, hurting yourself, etc.

First event of 2006 - UPDATED

Ran the KRR Siberian Express Trail Race yesterday. Still waiting for the official results, but I finished in somewhere around 01:13:30. My goal was to finish in less than 01:16:00, which is what I thought my pace from the Allerton Trail Race would place me at. Actually, I'd remembered my time at Allerton as being slower than it was, and I still beat my Allerton time. It was a much more difficult course than Allerton - quite hilly, and very muddy. I had one amusing/impressive spill during the race - tripped over a root, went flying forward, landed on my knees and hands. Somehow managed to continue running with no pause - it was as if I'd decided that one step out of the entire run would be done on my hands and knees. I wish I had video footage of it.

Me on the way home from the event:

UPDATE: My official finishing time was 1:13:35.4, which placed me 288th overall (out of 445 runners), 247th among men (341 men competed)

Last item from Wisconsin

On our way out of La Crosse, we stopped at Mr. D's for a small donut/snack for the drive back to Champaign.

As you can see, we ended up with a single apple fritter BIGGER THAN KATHLEEN'S HEAD! That's the normal size for their fritters! It's my understanding that Scotland has the second highest rate of heart disease in the world - I'm currently assuming that Wisconsin has the highest.
